oh hey. What is it day 3 of our lovely little trip and I already have a lot of memories! Today we went to pike's place market and wandered aimlessly around for a couple of hours. Have you ever wondered what happiness smells like? Well walk a little into the market and it will hit you, the perfect mixture of salty sea air, exotic food, and fresh flowers, the true smell of happy! Not to mention you get a little of the fish smell, but hey, tossing them around like that is also pretty awesome so it's really only contributing to the happy. we also drove over to fremont, a cute little artsy town that had cool shops that no one in our family would go into. we also went to another town that was lame and i actually dont remember the name of it.
Yesturday we walked down to the pier and ate at this sea food resturant. Lauren, dad and I ordered this huge crab pot that they poured out on the table and you just smashed the crab legs with this little hammer they gave you, it was sweet. There was also a little arcade that we went over to after dinner. I kicked butt at pinball and air hockey (only after knocking one of the pucks underneath the carousel) and won a lizard out of a claw machine. This was only after I accidentally fell out of a photo booth and almost died. I also got a bunch of tickets and got a ring and chinese handcuffs. (Madelyn won enough tickets to buy this huge fake diamond and she won't stop talking about it.) It was the best night of my life. We are going out to dinner again tonight but I am expecting it to be a little less eventful than last night. I'll post some pictures once I finally have access to a real computer, so probably when I get home.
Cheers,
Cayla

breakfast burritios
Don't always trust the weather channel. You'd think that people would learn this after all this time, but still we continue to check the weather on the news, Internet, and our cell phones daily. Yesterday, we went to Gig Harbor, an adorable little harbor town about thirty minutes outside of Auburn, which is where we are currently located in Washington. The weather app on my phone had told me it was going to be 80 degrees so we all dressed in short sleeves and shorts. Upon arriving in Gig Harbor, we quickly realized it was only 52 degrees and quite windy. Awesome. We ate at a tiny little diner situation that had really good clam chowder that took (literally) two hours to get to our table. Later we walked around on the docks and sang Adam songs, I'd upload some pictures but I'm currently writing from the iPad, which is both cool and a little annoying. Last night Cayla and I had to piece together couch cushions to create a make shift mattress for the pull out couch we've been assigned to. It had one of those mattresses that makes you feel like you've been run over with a lawn arertor when you wake up. You know how it is. Here's hoping my family can finally figure out something to do and I can actually get a Starbucks in the coffee capital of the world.

dear lauren,
just because you have a job doesn't mean you have an expendable income. just because you are upset with someone/something in your life doesn't mean you should go to the mall and buy anything and everything you see. even if it is the cutest dress on the planet that was entirely made for you, you need to face the fact that you can't fix the broken zipper and it is not worth $34 even though with tights and oxford heels the outfit would be straight out of vogue. you have to remember that while clothes are very important, you have an entire closet full of them at home, and expenses like gas and food should come first. you should not spend $80 on hair supplies you don't need. the rush from blowing an entire paycheck at victoria's secret is (unfortunately) not going to last, neither is the adrenaline from spending enough money for three tanks of gas on a pair of skating shoes you may wear but will never (ever) use to skate.
unfortunately for my bank account, i am now done with my nannying job while the girls are in europe. which in another way can be good news because i was going slightly insane. a few nights ago, i had a dream about zhu zhu pets, you know, the little mechanical hamsters that parents who don't want to deal with real animals buy their kids. i was in a giant auditorium celebrating some kind of graduation where everyone received zhu zhus as a gift, except mine was huge and extremely evil. then of course i had to win the admiration of raymond, the lifeguard from aquamarine that is like 10 years older than everyone else in the movie. apparently he didn't like my evil zhu zhu pet, but could you blame him? those things are kind of creepy anyway. i guess i probably spent the rest of the dream waiting for him to shake his hair, flex, then stretch to show he liked me, but i'm sure he'd be like the boy you follow around all through middle or high school and then he finally ends up being a tool. ouch. time for more shopping?
cheers,
lauren

He's rich, he can buy new feelings
Lauren and I (Cayla) will do whatever it takes to get what we want, especially if it is at all pertaining to music, especially if that music is pertaining to Andrew Mcmahon. Even if it is illegal...yeah. You might think it is pathetic, but I consider it ambitious and our superior manipulative skills to get pretty much anything off the internet will probably help us one day. okay, maybe not, but for the time being, you should know they can't arrest you for stalking if you aren't hurting them. just kidding, kind of.
Now Lauren can't say I never update the blog, even if this is considerably damaging to our image.
we're not creepy.

Cayla

i am a mountaineer
this saturday the girls that i nanny are embarking on a trip across europe with their parents. they’re visiting london, paris, and finally a ten day family reunion in norway. poor things, right? while we do not have the privilege of hopping the pond, we are going on what we would consider an exciting vacation. if you can’t tell by the title because you do not live and breathe adam young like we do, we are going to the majestic, rainy city of seattle. weather.com tells me that on the day we get there, there’s going to be 67% humidity but 0% chance of rain. how super is that? bring on the hats and headbands.
but other than rain, which i haven’t seen in about three months since visiting boston, seattle also has a few more exciting perks. an aquarium- of which arizona has acquired two within the last year, a truly confusing fact considering we’re entirely landlocked- pike’s place market, and really amazing food. all in all this trip is going to be completely rad. it’s going to be an extreme challenge not to spend all my nannying money on clothes and (obviously) the aquarium gift shop.
i had to deal with a small crisis at makutus island today involving a gash in one of my little girl's head and a whole bloody mess of hair. no worries though, it was all resolved with some wet paper towels, hydrogen peroxide spray, and an ice pack. anyways, sky sailing is calling.
cheers,
lauren

lizard push ups
recently our family took a little jaunt to sedona. just a one night stay in the only hotel on the main road though, our personal suggestion would be to not really stay there, especially if you have a pet, because the owners head might explode.
Anyway we had a kind of balcony, and as we sat in our room watching dirty jobs and final destination, we noticed a strange thing. There was tiny lizards all over our deck and they were all doing push ups. Now we have a chuckwalla (Which is like a really giant lizard) named Constance that lives in our backyard and she is always doing this.
so we danced and danced, taking multiple pictures and getting really disgustingly sweaty. which is why that is the only picture you will see from that. but it is really great exercise, so next time you feel like you really need a good workout, go watch a video of lyrical dancing and put on some owl city, it's awesome.
hold up, lauren just put on some sky sailing and our kitchen is still empty, I'm thinking there is some more dancing in my future.
cheers,
cayla

(Glamour shot of constance)
But anyway when we came back lauren and I (cayla) just had to find out why they do this. So we googled why lizards do push ups and we actually found quite a slew of scientific information explaining to us exactly why lizards do push ups. It seems to be lizards showing off how strong they are and is a part of mating. Seems that those juiceheads up in jersey have a lot more in common with lizards than we think, you know, besides being gross.
So I'm guessing that you are probably wondering what lauren and I do in our spare time. Well it's good that you are because that is what the rest of this post is about. You see, Lauren and I enjoy dancing, not to say that we are actually any good, but we just really like to do it. Sooo, we have recently taken to doing lyrical dancing to owl city through our currently empty kitchen (you know, because we are getting new tile, which we finished today even though our house is still hopelessly dirty). So anyway we spent an entire afternoon dramatically dancing through out our kitchen, and trust me, we've got some moves.

let's shrink ourselves down & swim in the fish tank
it's finally gotten to that point. it is so unbearably, ungodly, unholy, inhumanly hot outside that all we can do is melt into our couch and complain about the weather. when the temperature reaches over 112, you must whine, complain, and pretend-cry about the weather in a very loud voice while gathering purses/purchases out of the car on the way into the garage. you know you do it.
today we went to the mall. it was one of those retail therapy kind of days. i (lauren) went to nordstrom, love culture, and victoria's secret and couldn't find ANYTHING that i wanted. obviously the planets were not correctly aligned. we decided to try forever 21, even though we're pretty sure the reason it's called forever 21 is because it takes five years to get through the entire store. cayla found a t-shirt covered in an owl print, so obviously we had to get it. not sure what size to get, she tried on one in the middle of the store. it was very cute, but a little baggy. cayla claimed that it "looked like she was hiding a pregnancy". the boy that was hanging up clothes on the rack directly next to us was not amused and created a very awkward situation. i guess that's what he gets for working at forever 21.
we went to aveda because we were in desperate need of a deep conditioner. the girl not only talked us into a $26 conditioner, but a sun-screen spray, and a hand scrub that you got to scent yourself. she also provided us with little dixie cups of "tea". when i first tasted the tea i was sure that i had heard her wrong because it really tasted like something you would put in your hair instead of in your mouth. later, we were sure that it was actually poison because our tongues felt weird and we were very sleepy.
greatest news in the world: the people at silvermine subs FINALLY know me by name. my life is complete!

lauren & cayla

tile & coffee
right now I'm sitting on the floor in the middle of my kitchen since our tile renovation project has left our house entirely (temporarily) void of chairs. this morning, not in the mood for watery tea from a box, I wrestled our old coffee machine off the shelf in the garage and plugged it in next to the stove. i dusted off the little machine, which was a little unnecessary considering everything in our house, from the counter tops to the food for the fish, is covered in tile dust right now.
thinking myself pretty familiar with coffee machines as I make coffee at my dad's house all the time, I set to dismantling the machine so I could fill it with the grounds a la cafe du mond. unfortunately this machine was a little tougher to conquer, either from being in the garage for too long or just being a completely different model from the one my dad owns. it took me the best of about ten minutes to clean the coffee machine enough that I was willing to drink whatever came out of it and then fill it with coffee grounds and water. after pushing the start button, I backed away as the machine started making unrecognizable gurgling and gushing sounds, but nevertheless, seconds later it was brewing coffee. the bottom floor of my house now smells of cafe au lait and the unmistakable odor of do-it-yourself home improvement.
the coffee machine stopped making its coffee-brewing noises, so I figured it was done brewing the coffee. I was very, very wrong. I filled my new life is good mug about three-fourths of the way full when more coffee started spilling out of the machine. I stuffed the coffee pot back into the machine and it was like the niagara falls of coffee had been waiting in the top of the coffee machine. only a little spilt, but I still had to use around 17 paper towels to clean up the mess. they're the kind that are half the size of a regular paper towel, so you think you're saving paper, but really you're just using twice as much.
I'm going to go sit on the porch in the backyard and enjoy the nice weather. get it? it's already 98 outside. anyways, I saw two pigeons fighting on the fence a few minutes ago, and I do not want to put myself in the middle of that kind of situation.
cheers,
lauren

steady as she goes
the sky sailing cd is here! it's downloading as I type, but I had to write this now before cayla beats me to it. you'd think that adam couldn't get anymore amazing, but this music will obviously prove anyone wrong. it leans more towards something corporate's north and I like it because the songs are more personal than ocean eyes. adam sounds just as adorable and cuddly but the music is less electronic. listen & love
enough with the cd review, the weather is MISERABLE here. I woke up at 5:45 to hike with my friend Jaclyn this morning, and by the time we reached the top of the mountain- probably around 6:20- we were dripping with sweat and completely out of breath from the excruciating sun. why must arizona torture us?! it hasn't been under 112 these past two weeks, and every time I get into my car my leather seats burn off three layers of my skin. these may sound like complaints but they are simply stated facts.
dreams never die when we sleep beneath the open sky in the deep shades overhead of blue & red.
chicago, here we come. part-time anyways. bring on the knee-high boots and trench coats.

we're backkk
we are finally home
and trust me, no one is happier about that than us. it has been quite a... trying vacation. now that we are back in the land with zero humidity, spiders and fun we can get down to the important stuff. stalking musicians. now I know that is not what you were thinking, I should be reading my english book, hanging out with friends, enjoying summer, but if musicians didn't want every movement they make tracked by me then they wouldn't put so much stuff about themselves on the internet. truth.
we did do something productive on our vacation though. although it took so much time that I don't even really like it anymore, we will post it very soon, as soon as I can wake lauren up, which you definitely don't want to do too soon, because then you will be wishing there were spiders and not her.
but anywayy soon I will be playing sims and swimming at my dad's house because my mother decided now would be an awesome time to rip up all our tile and put new stuff in. I can't handle any more pounding cracking sounds, so I will be very happy to escape that and eternal dirty jobs reruns.
but if I can get this stupid kid to stop long boarding shirtless past my house and lauren awakes from her slumber, I will post our thing. in the meantime go listen to sky sailing, I think I'm in love.
cheers,
cayla
oh and p.s. argentina, brazil, and portugal are all out of the world cup and germany is still in, so far my prediction is correct
