living in arizona, we don't really have "winter". it gets down to around 50-60 degrees, people pull out their parkas, and we suffer like thin-blooded wienies. then, around the middle of january, it's starts getting back into the 70s again, everyone stops hiding in their houses, some people start tanning again, etc. unfortunately, this year arizona has a few tricks up it's weather sleeve. last week, it was warm. I'd wear jackets to class in the morning, and by the time I was walking back to my car in the afternoon, the jacket would be in my bag and I'd be sweating in a tank top. so of course everyone in az was like "haha east coast suck it, we're nice and warm over here!" then karma hit. basically, this is what I saw when I opened my window this morning:
alright, so it hasn't actually snowed (yet), but it has been especially freezing. yesterday, it was 36 feels like 23 outside, which was colder than washington dc, boston, and new york. the wind was literally enough to freeze your soul, and also blew over a huge umbrella in my backyard. right now it's 38, feels like 34, but early this morning it was 19 feels like 1. ONE. this is phoenix, not minnesota (alright, that's a little dramatic). fortunately, it's not too windy today so it actually is kind of nice and brisk.
you can imagine that us arizonans are not taking this too well. everyone has taken to taking "snow days" and cooping up in their houses/dorms with the heat on 115. there was probably 50 kids in my 200-people english class yesterday. as of right now, the asu website is down so there's no way for us to check if classes might be cancelled, so what's the point of braving the cold to go to a class that might not even be happening?
alright, I have to go put on 300 layers so I can take pebble outside. she can't handle when it's gets below 85 degrees, so when I try to take her out now she kind of turns into a pebsicle. hopefully she'll do her business quickly so we can run back inside and wrap up in the million blankets that are on the couch.
cheers,
lauren
